Having played several hours of spore on Vista, I wanted to try out Spore on my MacBook. I installed Spore, and went through the long patching process only to find out your saved game data is not saved on the Spore servers. Turns out, the save game data is stored locally. It would have been nice if the Save Data was stored on the servers so you could login and access your Creations anywhere. Anyway, here’s a summary of what I did to get my Saved Game data from Vista to OS X.

First of all, I used a USB drive to copy the files off my Vista box. You can setup a network share, but I figured a USB drive would be simpler. Also note, I’ve only done this from Vista. I am assuming that it would be similar from XP.

From Vista:
1. Copy Saved Games from C:\\Users\\YourUserName\\AppData\\Roaming\\Spore\\ to your USB drive.
2. Copy Creations from C:\\Users\\YourUserName\\Documents\\My Spore Creations\\ to your USB drive.

To OS X:
1. Copy Saved Games from USB drive to User/Library/Preferences/SPORE Preferences/p_drive/User/Application Data/SPORE
2. Copy Creations from USB drive to User/Documents/My Spore Creations

Start up Spore. You should see your planet in the Galaxy map, as well as your Creations.

Galaxy Map

Troubleshooting:

If you end up with your planet, and your characteristics but your player model doesn’t look right, you copied only the Games folder.
